3 services

AFFiNE, the open-source Notion/Miro alternative — docs, whiteboards, and databases in one workspace you fully own.

VerifiedYes, deployed end to end by the Railyard team

Why deploy on Railyard

Railyard provisions all 3 services in this stack together — affine, affine-db, affine-redis — wired to reach each other over the private network, on a server you already pay for.

Deploying AFFiNE is one piece of a bigger stack you can keep building — add a database, a worker, a cache, or another app, all on the same servers you already pay for.

Good for

  • A self-hosted Notion/Miro alternative for notes, docs and whiteboards
  • A team workspace where the data stays on your own server instead of a vendor's cloud

Good to know

  • Postgres (with pgvector) and Redis are wired up automatically; the predeploy script runs the database migration before each boot
  • The config directory is on its own volume so AFFiNE's own self-host-predeploy.js only generates its EC signing/encryption key (~/.affine/config/private.key) once — without this volume every redeploy would silently mint a fresh key (AFFiNE needs the actual PEM-formatted keypair its own script produces, not a generic secret, so this has to be solved with persistence, not an env var)
  • The search indexer is left disabled by default, matching AFFiNE's own docker-compose reference — enable AFFINE_INDEXER_ENABLED yourself if you need full-text search
  • Create the first workspace and account from the web UI on first visit — nothing is pre-seeded
