Why deploy on Railyard

Railyard runs it standalone on a server you already pay for — no addons to provision, with zero-downtime deploys and scaling still included.

Deploying CockroachDB is one piece of a bigger stack you can keep building — add a database, a worker, a cache, or another app, all on the same servers you already pay for.

Good for

  • A Postgres-wire-compatible SQL database with built-in resilience and horizontal scale-out
  • Multi-region applications that need strong consistency without manual sharding
  • Testing or running workloads designed for CockroachDB's distributed semantics

Good to know

  • Runs as a single node in --insecure mode — fine for development or an internal/private workload, not for anything holding data you'd mind losing without TLS and real auth
  • This template doesn't expose the DB console (8080) — connect with any Postgres client against the SQL port (26257)
  • Single-node means no built-in replication; it's the distributed-SQL engine without the distribution — use CockroachDB Cloud or a hand-rolled multi-node cluster if you need that
