Why deploy on Railyard
Railyard runs it standalone on a server you already pay for — no addons to provision, with zero-downtime deploys and scaling still included.
Deploying Apache CouchDB is one piece of a bigger stack you can keep building — add a database, a worker, a cache, or another app, all on the same servers you already pay for.
Good for
- A document database with a native HTTP/JSON API and no separate query language to learn
- Multi-master replication to sync data between servers, or out to offline-first mobile/desktop apps (PouchDB)
- An events/changes-feed-driven backend using CouchDB's built-in _changes API
Good to know
- The official image doesn't create CouchDB's system databases automatically — after the first deploy, run `curl -X PUT $RAILYARD_URL/_users`, `.../_replicator`, and `.../_global_changes` with your admin credentials once, or CouchDB will log errors about missing system databases
