Import from Heroku, Render, Fly or Railway
Bring an app over with its processes, variables, databases and domains from an API token.
Applications → Import reads your apps from the other platform with an API token, shows a plan per app, and creates the app on the server you pick. Railway is verified end to end; Heroku, Render and Fly are in beta until they have been run against real accounts, so check the plan before you confirm.
| From | What comes over | What to add yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Heroku | Config vars, the formation (process types and counts), Postgres, Redis, MySQL and Memcached add-ons, custom domains | The Git URL you push from: Heroku’s API doesn’t share the repository |
| Render | Repository and branch, environment variables, start command, custom domains; background workers become worker processes | Values of secret files |
| Fly | The exact image Fly runs (pulled with your token), the main process group’s config, volumes | Secret values: Fly never reveals them, so you re-enter them after the import. Other process groups are listed for you to add as workers |
| Railway | Repository or image per service, variables, Postgres, Redis, MongoDB and MySQL plugins, domains, across projects and environments | A database with no public address: export it and use Import data |
Databases are copied by streaming a dump from the source’s DATABASE_URL into the new managed database. Keep the old platform running until the new URL answers, then move DNS.
From the terminal, heroku config -s output pastes straight into Variables → Bulk import.
